Art of the equines

The GPE are a special breed of horse. They are large and sturdy breed, suited best for working a farm and pulling carts. They also were once used as war horses during the war between the Mountain and Forest kingdoms. GPE stand at 13-17 hands, though are most commonly ranging at around 15-16 hands. Their coats are sleek and soft, the colors and patterns are too varied to even list, though they are most commonly found with a 'paint' style coat. Their manes and tails are long and flowing, their hooves heavily feathers and nearly fully concealed. GPE's have long beards under their chins, both male and female, and have a pair of horns that sweep backwards along their necks. Their eyes range in any color of the full spectrum, and produce a glow that resembles smoke, or possibly flames. They are docile beasts, but are not easily tamed.

History; I was born on the Great Plains during a storm. Sounds very cliché, I know. But that day changed the lives of all around me, and they didn't even know it. A future leader, teacher and friend was born. You wouldn't have thought that if you had looked at me when I was young - I wasn't as tough or as sturdy as the other foals around me, and they often mocked my lack of muscle. Often, I would ask my mother what made me so different. Usually she would reply with "you are unique, and you shouldn't ever try and change yourself, because I love you the way you are.' Everyone, including myself, knew that truly she was ashamed of me. My father, the leader of our herd looked down on me. He saw me as a bother, and would do whatever he could to leave me out. Including when it came to training us foals. In our herds, the older horses were all assigned a foal to teach them all they know about the world. The male foals would then be sent out into the big, wide and apparently scary world alone, whilst the females stayed in that herd all their lives. I was put with the oldest horse in our herd, who just so happened to be deaf in one ear and usually felt ill.

However, everything that came out of her mouth helped me. She was different to the others - not judgemental or forceful of what I should be and look like. When she spoke, I listened closely. I began to learn about the world, and not just how to survive, but how to thrive amongst others and incorporate other horses joy and achievements into my own. I began to feel like I no longer cared what people thought. I just needed to stay strong mentally, the physical side would just come naturally. I loved that old mare like my mother. When it came the time for me to leave, everyone was happy to see me go. Except her, of course. She was happy to see me go in a different way - she knew I would survive the longest. She knew I'd probably have the best mares and she knew I'd know what to do.

After I'd left, I walked around for a few months, avoiding other herds. Yet I soon came to terms with the fact that if I were to get anywhere in life, I'd have to fight for it. Literally. My first battle was against an ageing stallion with about 5 mares in his herd. He may have been old, but he was definitely experienced. He fought the battle well but surprisingly something happened that when I was young, I thought would never happen. I won. Strangely though, I did not want to kill him. As I looked into those weakened eyes I thought to myself, 'why do we do this? Why do we kill them just because we want the mares?' So that is where I changed history forever.

I let the old stallion into my herd as an elder. We would protect and feed him, and in return he would teach everything he knew to the foals. It began as only my herd doing it, but soon it spread and now lots of herds do it. Of course, there is always those who do not want change. But they are in a minority now.

These days, I am the leader of a rather large herd of horses. The herd includes both my mother and father, as I defeated him and let him join my herd. I plan on living my days out like this, running free. I enjoy life now. I don't let people bring me down. I am my own man, yet I will never fight alone.

Likes; being free, making others equal

Dislikes; inequality and death.
